How to order a hose assembly: what we need to know
Medium, pressure, inner diameter, overall length, end fittings, conditions, testing and marking: the details we need to quote a hose assembly, with an example request.
A hose assembly is a hose cut to length with couplings fitted at both ends, ready to install. To quote it correctly, we need to know what it will carry, under what conditions and what it connects to. The more of this you send in the first message, the fewer questions we have to ask. Here is the list.
1. The medium
What flows through the hose: water, fuel, a chemical, a food product, steam, air, a dry or abrasive material. For chemicals, add the concentration; for abrasive media, what the solids are. Also give the temperature of the medium and of the surroundings.
2. Pressure and vacuum
The maximum working pressure in the line. If the hose works on the suction side of a pump, say so: it then needs a steel helix and must be rated for vacuum. The pressure rating of an assembly depends on the couplings as well as on the hose, so we check both.
3. Inner diameter
The inner diameter of the hose, in mm or inches. If you are not sure, give the size of the connection on the pump, tank or machine.
4. Overall length
The length of the finished assembly from the end of one coupling to the end of the other. If you need several lengths, list each one with its quantity.
5. End fittings
For each end: the coupling system and size — for example Camlock with its type, Storz, a flange with its standard and size, a thread with its type and size, or a food coupling such as Clamp or Macon — and the material. If you are not sure, send a photo of the ends or of the old assembly; we can also select by sample.
6. Conditions
Where and how the hose works: indoors or outdoors, dragged over the ground or fixed, tight bends during installation, whether an antistatic or conductive line is required, and anything special about the site.
7. Testing, documents and marking
Tell us which tests you need: a pressure test, a leak tightness check, an electrical continuity check, visual and dimensional inspection. We can issue a test report. If the assembly needs marking — for example a tag number — say what it should show.
8. Quantity and delivery

Medium: diesel, ambient temperature. Pump draws from a tank through the hose. Maximum pressure: 6 bar. Inner diameter: 51 mm. Overall length: 8 m. Ends: Camlock type C, aluminium, at both ends. Tests: pressure test and electrical continuity, with a test report. Quantity: 4.
