How to choose a hose for diesel transfer
Suction or delivery only, what the hose can carry, static electricity, size and couplings: what to check when choosing a hose for diesel transfer.
Diesel is transferred from storage tanks to vehicles and machinery, from tank trucks to tanks and between tanks: at depots, on farms, on construction sites and in fleet yards. The hose has to resist the fuel, cope with suction if the pump draws through it and drain static electricity. Here is how to choose it.
Suction side or delivery only
If the pump draws fuel from a tank or barrel through the hose, that hose works under vacuum and has to be a suction and delivery hose made for it. DELOIL 10 SD is a suction and delivery hose for fuels and petroleum products with a steel helix; it is vacuum resistant.
If the hose only runs from the pump outlet to a tank or a vehicle, a discharge hose is enough: DELOIL 10 D has textile reinforcement without a helix.
Both hoses have a working pressure of 10 bar and work from −30 to +80 °C.
What the hose can carry
DELOIL 10 SD and DELOIL 10 D are made for mineral oil products and fuel mixtures with aromatic content up to 50%. Diesel is a mineral oil product. For other media, check the aromatic content with your supplier or send us the product data sheet.
Static electricity
Fuel flowing through a hose can build up a static charge. DELOIL 10 SD and DELOIL 10 D have a copper wire for grounding, and the cover of DELOIL 10 SD is antistatic. For the charge to drain, the wire has to be connected to the couplings at both ends. We fit couplings and can check the electrical continuity of the finished assembly: see non-destructive testing of hose assemblies.
Size
Match the hose ID to the pump connection, and do not use a suction hose narrower than the pump inlet.

All these sizes are available in DELOIL 10 SD and DELOIL 10 D. DELOIL 10 SD is also available up to ID 254 mm.
Couplings

Cold weather
DELOIL 10 SD and DELOIL 10 D work down to −30 °C. For tank trucks in extreme cold there is DELOIL ARCTIC −55 °C: it retains flexibility at low temperature and works down to −55 °C, ID 51–102 mm.
